About us

Inspired by the motto ‘Helping instead of having’, the pupils and teachers of the Altötting Public Community College have engaged in various successful development aid projects sine the end of the seventies. EG Solar was set up in 1993 as a registered charitable organisation with well over 100 members. Our simply constructed solar cookers, which are now being used in more than 80 countries, have proved their worth time and time again. Working in collaboration with the industrial school, we continue to develop new model cookers based on suggestions for improvements made by users all over the world. Our partners are then invited to try out the improved solar cookers. By purchasing a model cooker they help to support the work of EG Solar, such as the development of new workshops. 

Purchasing a model cooker also helps to support the "Sozialwerkstatt des BRK" – a social project currently being implemented in Neuötting by the district association of the Bavarian Red Cross. Within the context of the said project, unemployed young adults for whom it is difficult to find employment are now building SK14 solar cookers. The knowledge and experience they gain as part of the process gives these young adults a better chance to make their way in the labour market. Since 1998, the high quality model cookers marketed by EG-Solar have been marked with a nameplate and a serial number to show that they have been produced by the "Sozialwerkstatt des BRK" (formerly "JAGUS").
